Lightweighting is decarbonization — every kilogram removed from a vehicle matters for fuel economy or EV range.

Sustainability at Linamar is not a separate program bolted on top of manufacturing — it is embedded in the product. Every kilogram we remove from a vehicle body, chassis or battery enclosure directly improves fuel efficiency on ICE platforms and extends range on EVs. Product-level lightweighting is our largest sustainability lever.

At the plant level, we run active programs to reduce energy intensity, water usage and process waste. Investments in high-efficiency melt furnaces, heat-recovery systems, closed-loop cooling and aluminum scrap recycling reduce the carbon intensity of every part we ship.

Aluminum recycling deserves special mention: casting and machining aluminum generates high-value scrap that we route back into our own melt operations or to certified secondary aluminum suppliers. Recycled aluminum uses roughly 5% of the energy of primary aluminum — a major structural advantage for EV battery enclosures.

We publish annual sustainability disclosures aligned with recognized frameworks and continue to increase transparency around Scope 1, 2 and (where measurable) Scope 3 emissions. Our customers increasingly require lifecycle carbon data on structural parts, and we are investing to provide it program by program.
